Read Only Memory. The term originally applied to read-only memory chips used in computers. With the growth of optical storage, the term read-only now includes compact disc products (CD-ROM, CD-I, CD-ROM XA, CD-Recordable, etc) as well as DVD disc products (DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, and DVD-RAM)
