Progressive

Progressive scanning refers to an electronic method of scanning video image devices in order to capture or display a two-dimensional image. Its use reduces image distortion but requires increased frame rates in order to avoid flicker. Video images are sliced up into a series of horizontal lines. Progressive scanning creates a frame of video by scanning the all of the lines sequentially in a top-to-bottom order. Older technologies do not rely on progressive scanning because they cannot sustain the higher frame rates required to prevent flicker. These technologies rely on interlace scanning instead.
