High-Definition

A set of digital video standards in which frame sizes include 720 or 1080 active lines and frame rates include 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 50, 59.94, and 60 frames per second.  High-definition standards also encompass both interlaced and progressive scanning methods.  Nomenclature identifies the specific standard being used.  720/24p indicates 720 lines at 24 scans per second using progressive scanning.  1080/59.94i indicates 1080 lines at 59.94 scans per second using interlaced scanning (producing 29.97 frames per second).
