Edge Crop

The technique of formatting a widescreen picture to fit within a non-widescreen frame. Edge cropping permanently reduces the width of a widescreen image by eliminating a portion of the image from both sides. Edge cropped video refers to a 4:3 recording that contains only the center portion of a 16:9 image. Image contents outside the center portion are no longer visible. Edge cropped images cannot be restored to widescreen.
