Artwork FAQs

Q: I received a call from the Graphics Department saying my artwork was not set up correctly. What went wrong?
A: Although there are many replicators across the country, all templates are not the same. We suggest calling ahead of beginning design to be sure you’re on the right track.
Q: What are the best file formats?
A: Vector based programs such as Illustrator and InDesign are your best bet. Quark is also a viable option. These programs produce the best quality text. Photoshop is really meant just for photos and not text because text tends to print pixilated.
Q: Photoshop has capabilities of producing vector text now, so why shouldn’t I use that?
A: Although Photoshop promotes itself as having vector text, images produced in Photoshop are still CMYK. There is a method to create Pantone art in Photoshop but unless you know exactly how to do this, it can be challenging.
Q: Why do I see dots on my printed disc?
A: Silkscreen runs at a lower line screen and uses a larger dot than offset print. This can only be eliminated by using a 100% solid Pantone color.
Q: But if I use Pantone colors, I can’t use a full color image, can I?
A: That’s correct, you can’t print full color images in Pantone. We recommend accenting the matching components rather than trying to match identically.
Q: I like my CMYK image. Can I still use it?
A: Sure, call for samples ahead of time. We’ll happily send them to you as a reference point for quality of CMYK print on discs.
